Emlenton Woman, 95, Celebrates Birthday

Derrick Staff Writer“Work, Just keep working, Good, honest work never hurt anybody,” said Mrs. Birdie Adams when asked the secret of living a long life.
Mrs. Adams should know. She will be celebrating her 95th birthday tomorrow.
“I Guess I’m an old chicken,” she chuckled when interviewed at Grandview Convalescent Home, where she has been making her home for the past four years.
Mrs. Adams was born in and has lived most of her life in the Emlenton area. She is the daughter of the late Jesiah and Sarah Hugh.
On January 14, 1893, she married Robert (Boyd) Adams.
Her husband worked in the oil industry, first as a tool dresser and later as a driller, until his death in 1924.
“Thoses were the good days, when we traveled from field to field,” reminissed Mrs. Adams.Mr. Adams worked in the oil fields in this area and spent five years working in the oil fields in Texas.
Mrs. Adams found enough work to do raising three daughters and keeping house for her family.Her daughters are Mrs. Norman (Myrna) Cosper of Oil City, Mrs. George (Hazel) Clover of Detroit, and Mrs. John (Bernice) Hineman, who lives near Butler. Mrs. Adams also has eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Adams Dies at 99 In Oil City
EMELTON–Mrs. Birdie Adams, 99 former Emlenton resident, died Sunday at Grandview Convalescent Home in Oil City where she had been a patient for eight years.
She was born August 4, 1872, in Richland Township, Emlenton RD 1, a daughter of the late Joseph and Sara Jane Albert Hugh.
She married Robert Boyd Adams who preceded her in death January 14, 1923.
Mr. and Mrs. Adams lived their entire lives in the Emlenton area.
Mrs. Adams was a member of the United Methodist Church of Emlenton.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Norman (Myrna) Cosper of Oil City, Mrs. George (Hazel) Clover of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. John (Bernice) Hindman of Petrolla RD 1; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
Friends will be received after 2 p.m. today at the Robert F. Criswell Funeral Home in Emlenton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Rev. Lloyd Tennies, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Emlenton, officiating.
Interment will be in the Emlenton Cemetery.
