NOTE: The Mrs. Jennie Hineman mentioned was Jennie Elizabeth Kessler, who was first married to John Herbert Hineman, son of Jacob and Sarah Catherine (Kauffman/Coffman) Hineman. Sarah later married a Grube (see obit).

JACOB KESSLAR. Punxsutawney.
Jan. 19–Jacob Kesslar, an old and respected resident of this city, died in his home, 414 Graffius avenue, at 1:00 a.m. Sunday, at the age of 80 years, after an illness of several months duration.

The deceased was born May 10, 1857, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Crist Kesslar, pioneer residents of Young township, this county. He was united in marriage in 1886 to Miss Jennie Trusell. He attended the Reformed Church in this city. For years he was a trusted employe of the R and P Coal and Iron Company, advanced age compelling his retirement a number of years ago. He was widely known and highly respected in this city and his death is sincerely mourned.

Surviving are his widow and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Jennie Hineman, Mrs. Frank Blair, of Pittsburgh; Mrs. H.R. Peoples, Mrs. J.F. Kelly, of this city; George of Indiana; Fred of DuBois. Two sisters and two brothers also survive: Mrs. Clayton, of DuBois; Mrs. Sheesley of California; Abe, of this city, and Harry of Winslow.
Funeral services were conducted in his late residence at 2 p.m. today, the Rev. M.N. George officiating. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.

MRS. JANE TRUSELL KESSLER
91, a life-long resident of Punxsutawney, died in her home on Graffins Ave., at 11 o’clock Wednesday night. She had been seriously ill since last March.

The deceased was born in Jefferson County, Sept. 18, 1858, a daughter of William B. and Susan Redding Trusell. April 13, 1885, she was united in marriage with Jacob Kessler, who died in 1936. She was a member of St. Peters Evangelical and Reformed Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Peoples and Mrs. J.F. Kelly, both of Punxsutawney, two sons, George, of Chambersville and Harry, of Detroit; two step-daughters, Mrs. Jennie Hineman and Mrs. Nellie [Blimn]?, both of Pittsburgh; one brothers, Elmer E. Trusell, of Pittsburgh and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Luhring of New Bethlehem, and Mrs. Minnie Lattimer, Punxsutawney.  Seven grand children and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.

Friends are being received in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Peoples, 231 Elk Run Ave. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Charles O. Leibig officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Word has been received here of the death in Los Angeles last night of Mrs. Jennie Kesslar Horstman. Her husband died May 19, last. The deceased leaves a brother and sister, John Kesslar of Pittsburgh and Miss Minnie Kesslar of Los Angeles.

GEORGE MARTIN KESSLER,
husband of the late Esther Keller Kessler, of Indiana, R.D.2 passed away this morning, Monday, April 15, 1963 at the Indiana Memorial Hospital where he had just been admitted.

Born January 9, 1888 in Punxsutawney, Pa. he was a son of the late Jacob and Jane Trusal Kessler. His early life was spent in the Punxsutawney area and prior to coming to his residence 25 years ago he had resided for 11 years in Armstrong Township. He was a retired coal miner and farmer.

Surviving him are: three son, Merle, Indiana, R.D.1; Carl, Shelocta, R.D.1; Paul, Indiana, R.D.2; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Kelly, Punxsutawney, Pa., also surviving are nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

A brother, Fred; a sister, Mrs. Lulu Peoples and a grandson, Donald Carl Kessler, are deceased.

Friends will be received after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and until the hour of service Wednesday at Robinson-Lytle’s, Indiana where services will be conducted Wednesday, April 17, at 3 p.m. Rev. W.E. Shaffer will officiate and interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana, Pa.

Saturday in court, was devoted to the hearing of surety of the peace cases.
The first case taken up was that agains Edward Coffman, of Blairsville. It developed some very unpleasant family relations, and the Court sentenced the defendant to pay the costs of the hearing; to pay to his wife the sum of four dollars on Saturday of each and every week, the first payment to be made on Sauturday, Dec. 15; and to
enter into a recognizance, with good and sufficient sureties in the sum of $200, to comply with the sentence of the court. If the defendant shall provide a home for his family and give surety therefore, this sentence will be annulled.
Being unable to furnish the $200 bond, Coffman was sent to jail.

Separate bills of indictment were returned against Edward Coffman and his wife, Maud Coffman, of North Blairsville for selling whiskey to Joe Gaines, Will Sipe and others on April 21. The Coffmans pleaded guilty and were sentenced to pay a fine of $500 and undergo an imprisonment of 90 days in the county jail. The District Attorney was told to notify the poor overseers to look after the infant child of
the Coffmans.
