I have been doing genealogical research for several years now. I started this blog to post family tree information I am currently researching: people/families that are related, might be related or need more research etc.
My main surnames are: Cook, Brock, Hineman, Wenck, Steward/Stewart, Gardner, Parish/Parrish, Martin, Fitzsimmons, Gray, May, Hicks, Wilkes, Cochran, Christmas, Eason, Battles, Copeland, Best, Rabe, Rutenbeck, Wingate/Winget, Cary, Rowan/Rowen.
Most of the information on this blog is related to the Hineman line.
If you think you might be related, have questions or information, feel free to leave me a comment and I would be happy to see if we connect in some way.
Thanks for stopping by!
Cynthia
Hello Cynthia!
I came across your blog when I checked with Google about my great-great- grandfather, James E. Hindman. Lo and behold, many of my relatives’ names appeared! His wife was Clementina Messenkop Hindman. Their son, William B. Hindman, was my great-grandfather; his wife was Mary E. McMahon Hindman. Their daughter, Martha E. Hindman Rankin, was my grandmother. Her children were Raymon H. Rankin, Bertha E. Rankin Fallstick, William E. Rankin (my father), Charles T. Rankin, Roy Rankin and Edward G. Rankin. Not sure if we’re related, but if I can help in any way, let me know.

Pamela,
I came across your post on this blog while looking for info on another family member. I am the granddaughter to Bertha Fallstick, her son Charles was my father.
I have been trying to fill in the blanks to my father’s side of the family.
If you see this, I would really appreciate any info you can share on the family tree.
Cynthia,
I was just scanning the web and somehow came upon your research of Hattie Hineman, my great grandmother. Glenn and Velma Billig were my grandparents, Gerald and Maxine Billig my parents. Please contact me if you are interested in more info.
Dennis Billig
I stumbled across your blog doing some research online and just wanted to compliment you on it- very nice site. I love the old newspaper stories. I live in Independence twp Pa so I am familiar with some of the names and places mention herein
Thank you for a good read..
Cynthia,
I located your website while I was searching for information about some McElhaney’s in Beaver County, PA. I’m glad that I did because I think we are probably related somehow.
Sarah Elizabeth (Lizzie) McElhaney that was married to Henry Wilson Hineman was a sister to my great-grandfather Lester Leroy McElhaney.
I was wondering if you knew anything about their mother, Maria Wilson McElhaney. All I have been able to determine is that her father’s name was Thomas Wilson, that she was adopted by Alexander and Ruth Gibb, and that she lived with her daughter Nora Bernard (sister to Lizzie and Lester) until her death in 1935.
Lester, my great-grandfather, died in 1981 but I remember him well and visiting his home in Calcutta, OH. I know that he visited (on a rare occasion) with his two sisters, but any time we would ask about his family, he would always say that he didn’t know or couldn’t remember. As result, I really don’t know a whole lot about his parents or his siblings.
Besides Lizzie and Nora Blanche, I know Lester had at least three brothers: George McCoy (1872-1898), Alexander Gibb (1876-1914) and John Wilson “Wilse” (1889-?). George died unmarried, buried Mt. Olivet, Beaver County, PA. Alexander m. Clara Shillito, they are buried Mt. Olivet also. Wilse m. Hazel McCoy – I know nothing more about them except that in the 1930’s they lived near Pittsburgh.
If you have any information on this family, I would appreciate it. If not, I would still like to hear from you sometime.
Jack McElhaney
son of Jack
son of Floyd (1914-1984)
son of Lester (1893-1981)
son of John (1849-1902)
son of George (1821-1898)
son of William (1794-1864)
son of George (1753-1815)
son of William (d. 1800)
Jack,
Please contact me as I can give you information on Nora McElhaney Bernard who was my grandmother. We definitely have a family tie.
Kind Regards
NJ
Hello Jack,
my name is Tim van der Woning from Holland.
I was wondering if you knew a David J. McElhaney.
He was born in 1926 and I think he died in 2007.
Lived I think in Beaver, Pennsylvania.
I am looking for any family of him.
This week I was in the Eifel, in Germany near Monschau. I was their because of my hobby, collecting stuff from ww2, and dig for it.
I found a Foxhole with a good signal, so I started digging.
Then suddenly there was a dogtag, with the following info on it:
DAVID J. McELHANEY

I hope you know any family, or maybe you can help me with searching.
Thank you,
Tim

Stumbled across your blog while doing Dilworth ( Lula Hineman Dilworth ) research, her husband and his siblings and related families. I have acquired many photos including the Nicely family ( Mattie Nicely Dilworth ) and others. Those interested can see Rootsweb postings under Beaver County PA page for additional info.

I have been searching for several years for information on my great-grandfather Warren D. Hunt and just stumbled across you blog. I was so thrilled to see the information on his parents,Lyman and Ellen. This has filled in some blanks. If you have any more info on this branch of the family, such as birth dates and/or deaths I would be very grateful if you could pass that on to me. Thank you so much for all you have already posted.
Thank you,
Melinda
What I have for Lyman T. Hunt is born about 1835 PA, death 14 Mar 1900, Black Ash, PA. Wife Ellen Marie Unknown, born about 1843 NY, death unknown. I have my tree on a different computer, but if you need info on others, I can take a look and let you know what I have.
This is great info, I would like to know if young Lyman is a Jr. or is his middle name different? Keeping these all straight is no so easy to do, lol. I really appreciate all this info, it has certainly filled in lots of gaps. I have my great grandmothers diary from 1939 and it is filled with info on her side of the family but almost nothing on Warren’s side.
Thank you so much,
Melinda
I see where you go back to Amanda Gray Cook, whose mother was Martha Jane Snodgrass Gray. I believe that my Grandfather was Amanda’s Half Brother William Thomas Snodgrass. If you have any info on this family I would love to see and share what I Can with you.
Trish, I just now saw this message, (four years after) so if you get a notice, I would love to correspond with your regarding Martha Jane May Snodgrass Gray.
Cynthia
Katherine Margaret Edmisten was the daughter of my great Aunt Edith Leslie Kidd and she married Frank Gray. That is about all the info I have on them. I do know that Katherine was born Sept. 1914 and died in Portsmouth,OH in 2001. I don’t see any Snodgrass’s in my tree at the moment. If I find anymore I will surely pass it on.
computers have certainly helped our genealogical research easier. My grandmother was the youngest of Julia and George Hineman’s children, Della DeVillars. Her oldest son, Ralph DeVillars, was my father. We visited our Great Aunt Faye up until last year when she passed away at age 104 on Jan. 12, 2013. We also loved attending the Hineman reunions for many years while young and even a few in my early married years until they no longer took place. My geneological research has focused on the DeVillars side of the family as started by my dad when he was living.
Wow, it is so nice to hear from you! I know there is still a HINEMAN reunion, but it might be a different one, since dna has recently proven they are not a genetic match to our/your Hineman line. We do have a group of HINEMAN researchers, so if you are interested, I can put you in touch with our little group. Look forward to hearing more from you!

Hi Cynthia, I think we have links (by marriage) through the Howell / Hineman marriage (Susan Hineman to Daniel Howell). My line descends from Daniel Howell’s brother David Howell. I have only just started searching this line. I am hoping to get some verification (Certificates) from Iowa over the next few weeks. If you have anything on the Howell line, I am happy to swap info. Ta Greg (Australia)
Hi Greg, I just saw this message from you. If you get my reply, would love to hear from you again regarding the Hineman/Howell connection.

Hello Cynthia,
I just stumbled onto your Hindman post for Mary Hindman and Cornelious Donovan. Mary Hindman would be my great great aunt and was the daughter of Samuel Hindman and Catherine Davis. I just recently discovered her through a probate document on Samuel’s will and last testament. I knew she existed but only as Polly and was never to find a trace of her. The Hindmans in Brooke county are a large group but I do have a lot of info on them as my family married into that family four times. Post back if you want ot compare notes.
Tom Cleland
Hi Tom,
Thank you for leaving a comment. I never did figure out if these Donovan/Hindman folks were related somehow, although I do know our Hineman ydna does go back to Ireland. I need to go through my old emails to find which Hindmans we are related to (there are some, even though we are Hineman).
Cynthia
Cynthia, I’m going to have to check some records, but as I have been concentrating on other lines, I haven’t yet been able to prove that Daniel and David were brothers. I will dig a little deeper over the weekend and get back to you. Greg

Thank you! Yes, I think that is the same family. I did some more research on Daniel Howell ‘s daughter and it appears she never married, so that was the end of the line in regards to the Hineman Howell line.
You’ve got me right into this now! Just found this post on Ancestry (with an email address). As far as you know, is the statement that “Daniel’s Mom was actually Mary VARNICK” correct? Or new information? Ta, Greg

Well, now! That is interesting. I had Mary Warnick even though the wife is shown on one census as Nancy. I will be looking into this as well, haha.
Has anyone on the Howell Line done any DNA testing? I would love to check their name / kit number to see if we match somewhere. My Dad (now deceased) and I have done, YDNA, mtDNA and Autosomal testing through FTDNA. Dad’s is under kit 175058 (Deceased) Howard Nichols and I’m under kit 299202 Greg Nichols
Cynthia, Don’t know if you are still doing this but I have a picture of what I believe is the Ralph & Emma Pingel Hineman family with three of their children. If you can contact me and are interested, I would like to get it to you.
Wow! This is exciting! Thank you so much for contacting me. I would love the picture. I’ll send you an email.
