QUESTION: Nancy Mahala Hineman, daughter of Philip married “Mann” George Augustus VinCamp/VanCamp? Which surname is it? Did it change over time? One census clearly spells it VinCamp. Newspaper references use both spellings. One tree on Ancestry.com lists the surname just as “Camp.” Their son, Clyde‘s WWI draft registration lists William Clyde VanCamp, with Ina Cleo as wife. WWII draft registration says Clyde (states specifically: no middle) VinCamp, and Nancy VinCamp (his mom?) is listed as person who will always know him.

Oh, and where did the name/nickname, “Mann” come from?

Mt. Hope Cemetery index lists surname as VinCamp. ** Just checked find-a-grave and there are pictures of the gravestones which say, “VINCAMP.” In addition, the information listed on find-a-grave about Nancy (Hineman) Vincamp has her maiden name spelled as HINDMAN. LINK TO GRAVESTONES

Minnie, daughter of Jeremiah and Agnes (Hineman) McClelland married Thomas Clyde Arters, who only shows up as Clyde on census records, but draft registration gives Thomas as a first name.

Relation to head-of-household: Something other than a direct relationship (Other)** I think the reason it says this is that the relationship fields for this family were left blank.

*Should the name be Van Camp? Minnie had a cousin, William Clyde Van Camp, son of George Van Camp and Nancy Hineman (who was the daughter of Phillip Hineman.) I will need to do some checking.

UPDATE: Yes, the name is VanCamp.

Clyde Arters attended the Davison reunion at Sunville? on Saturday afternoon and the Arters-Arthurs reunion at Mystic Park on Sunday afternoon.

Miss Anna McClelland was also a visitor at the Davison reunion.

Mrs. Grace Bell of Franklin and Mrs. Clara Davison of Erie were Friday afternoon callers at the McClelland home.

QUESTION: Is there another DAVISON connection, besides James K. Hineman‘s wife, Mary Adaline Davison?

UPDAATE: THIS IS NOT THE CORRECT SYLVIA! Based on new information, it appears Sylvia married M.A. Stull, whose first name appears to be Marshall. They were living in Florida.

Now for some serious speculating.

Sylvia McClelland, daughter of Jeremiah and Agnes (Hineman) McClelland is living at home until at least 1900, and was in her 30’s at that time. Since the 1910 census states that 4 of Agnes‘ children are still living,  Sylvia must have finally married someone.

This is took quite a bit of searching, but I think it’s a real possibility this is her. Erie County, PA is not far from Venango County, PA. See what you think:

This fellow is in his 30’s and still single in 1900:

Name: John P Shreve
Home in 1900: Union, Erie, Pennsylvania
Age: 37
Birth Date: Jun 1862
Birthplace: Pennsylvania

Gender: Male
Relationship to head-of-house:     Son
Father’s Name:     James
Father’s Birthplace: Pennsylvania
Mother’s Birthplace: New York
Marital Status: Single
Residence : Union Township, Erie, Pennsylvania
Household Members:
Name     Age
James Shreve   74 (father)
John P Shreve    37
Maggie E Shreve 42
Hattie F Shreve 40

In 1910,  he is married to a Sylvia, of the right age, and has been married for 8 years.

Name:  Sylvia B Shreve

***

Now, in 1920, no John P. Shreve to be found, or Sylvia B, but look here, a Sylvia BSylvia, and our Sylvia McClelland. married to some fellow from France! Notice she was first married at the age of 36. This fits the time frame of the above
